Using Star Stream Pro Video Feeds with OBS Studio
OBS Studio is a free to download and use video switching application that can help you create your own live stream for YouTube and others. We recommend this software for anybody looking to get started in live streaming.
This guide will simply show you how to enter the Star Stream Pro video feeds into OBS Studio. This guide will not to teach you how to use all of the features of OBS Studio; there's plenty of YouTube videos that can walk you through every aspect of using OBS Studio.
Here is a great video put together by one of our fans to show details: How to Live Stream your Race to YouTube
What you'll need:
- A dedicated PC or Mac that can run the OBS software with a good internet connection.
- Your unique SRT video links (you can request these from SSP Support).
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled (brand new accounts do not have this enabled by default).
PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you have the cameras online and streaming before you start these steps. Without the cameras online, you will not be able to preview what the stream will look like.
Step 1) Create a Scene
Once you have OBS Studio installed and open, you will need to create a "Scene" to add one or more camera feeds to. This will need to named something unique and OBS will have one created by default called "Scene 1". You can have multiple scenes for different "looks" like a single full screen front or rear shot, with another scene for a picture-in-picture.
Step 2) Add the Video Source
Once you have one or multiple Scenes, you will need to add at least one "Source" to the Scene. For a simple one camera look, you can click the "+" button at the bottom of the Sources pane, then select Media Source from the menu.
Step 3) Name Your Source
You will want to give the video source a name. We recommend that you name it something related to the camera angle "Front Cam" or "Rear Cam" etc. If you are making multiple scenes and you've already created this video source, you will see these sources in the "Add Existing" list and you can simply select them to reuse them.
Step 4) Enter Your SRT Link
On the screen that pops up, you will first need to un-check the "Local File" checkbox. Then you will want to copy/paste the SRT link provided to you by SSP Support into the "Input" field. There should be no spaces before or after the "srt://..." address. Then click the "OK" button.
Step 5) Adjust the Size & Position
If your camera is streaming, you will see a preview of the camera on your "Canvas" at the top. Depending on your configuration, you may see that the video does not fill the entire Canvas. To do this, you can grab the red boxes surrounding the feed to scale it to the full screen (or make it smaller if doing a multi-camera Scene). If you are creating a multi-camera Scene, you can simply click-and-drag the camera feed where you want it on the Canvas.
Step 6) Finish Customizing
You can continue to add elements into your Scene, like backgrounds, sponsor logos, and more by adding and rearranging Sources within your scene.
Step 7) Connect to YouTube
Once you're ready to stream to YouTube, you can click the "Settings" button at the bottom right and then select "Stream" from the left menu. On the Stream page, you can select from a variety of Services including YouTube, Facebook, etc. Once you've selected YouTube, you can then choose to "Connect Account" which allows OBS Studio to create live streams automatically for you, or you can click "Use Stream Key" if you have already scheduled a stream in YouTube Studio and have the RTMP keys.
Step 8) Start Streaming
Once you have finished setting up your YouTube settings. You can click the "OK" button out of that Settings window. When you're ready to stream, you simply click "Start Streaming" at the lower right side of the window.
